Mobile

·         Grameen Technology Center

o    The Grameen Technology Center, an initiative of Grameen Foundation, leverages the power of microfinance and technology to create innovative and sustainable solutions that will enable MFIs to empower their clients to escape poverty more rapidly. It focuses on technology that:

§  makes microfinance operations more efficient

§  creates income-generating opportunities for the rural poor

§  provides poor communities access to information and resources.

o    Mifos is a management information system (MIS) designed specifically for the microfinance industry. It provides the key functionality required by MFIs, which includes client management, loan and savings portfolio management, loan repayment tracking, fee and savings transactions, and reporting. This is an enterprise-level database that can accommodate an MFI processing anywhere between 1,000 – 1 million clients. Most importantly, being web-based, Mifos enables a centralized database so that the head office and regional offices are looking at data in real time.

·         Kiwanja

o    Kiwanja.net helps empower local, national and international non-profit organizations to make better use of information and communications technology in their work. It provides a wide range of ICT-related services, with a specialization in the application of mobile technology.

·         WIZZIT

o    WIZZIT offers a secure and efficient payment mechanism to the unbanked and under-banked people of South Africa, in the form of a low cost, transactional bank account that uses cell phones for making person-to-person payments, transfers, and pre-paid purchases, and a Maestro debit card for making payments in the formal retail environment.

o    Inveneo is a non-profit social enterprise whose mission is to get the tools of ICT into the hands of organizations and people who need them most: those in remote and rural communities in the developing world. To do this, Inveneo creates and sells highly affordable and sustainable ICTs that are specifically designed for organizations -- governments, NGOs, private enterprises -- that serve these rural communities with vital services that include education, healthcare, economic development, relief and telecenters.

 

·         Jhai Foundation

o    With villagers and local partners, the Jhai Foundation builds: 1. Community buy-in training modules and tools 2. Sustainable business development and training modules and tools that include the making of visions and rigorous work plans, cooperative resource development, accounting training, and ways for continuous quality control.  For example, the Jhai PC and Communication System is a computer and communications system designed to meet the needs of villagers in remote and rural areas. It has been requested by people in 60 countries.

·         One Roof

o    OneRoof is a for-profit social enterprise, a new kind of business operating in the developing world that is driven by dual social and financial missions:   

§  To change the way that essential services are delivered to the world's rural poor — in terms of quality, affordability, relevance, and sustainable use of natural resources; and

§  To guarantee financial sustainability by ensuring that our franchisees, subsidiaries, and headquarters make a profit in the process.
